The fashion industry is not only a challenging one, but one that I constantly thrive off of. All of my goals since a very young age have been within the industry, and each time I set a goal for myself, it seems to get closer to a better “me.” If you are interested in this industry I am positive that you are (or should be) just as hungry for success and a lifetime happiness in having a fashion career. Phillip Lim is a prime example of an individual with goals who never gave up. This man took all the right steps to learn the industry and provide a brand for himself by focusing on his college career from the beginning while employed at Barney’s (everyone has to work retail), to eventually working his way up the ladder at Katayone Adeli. At age 31 (hense the name), Lim became the founder of a quirky clothing company and rose to Vogue in a shorter-than-average period of time. Phillip Lim is definitely an inspiration to fashion students like myself because it reminds us that all of our dedication will eventually be rewarded.
Now that Phillip Lim is doing a line for Target, I will be able to afford to have his name in my closet. In stores September 15th, the items available will range from $20 – $200 but no hints have been given as to what the merchandise may be. I will certainly be letting you guys know what they are the moment that Target opens at 8 AM that Sunday morning.
In the meantime, shop the collection here. Well, put all of the items that you love in the shopping bag and then look at the price it adds up to and remember that you still haven’t graduated college.
With all of the fun events to do during the summer, many girls think they need to plaster themselves with makeup incase they meet that “summer fling.” I’ve got news for you girls; DON’T DO IT! With the hot sun trickling beads of sweat down your flawless faces, your makeup will soon be trickling down with it. The best way to keep your skin glowing and worry-free is to use a moisturizer (I prefer Bobbi Brown Hydrating Gel Cream, $55) and MAYBE a light foundation if you won’t be outdoors. The best part about summer is all the fun lip colors! Applying a lipstick or gloss to a fresh face gives the illusion that you spent time on your look, but also gives you a worry-free mindset when the heat approaches your beautiful face. I have picked some of my favorite summertime lip products that will give you easy looks from day to night.
- Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté in Fetish Pink – All of the colors from this line are magnificent because they are well pigmented and go on the lips smoothly. This bright pink color will last you throughout the day without re-applying. For a steep $34, the lovely “gold” case makes you feel like you’ve spent your money wisely.
- Stila Silk Shimmer Luxe Gloss in Kitten – Perfect for those of you afraid to have a bold lip, this neutral, yet pleasing, lipgloss is a shimmering pale pink that can be used alone or on top of your favorite lipstick. This product also has a long-wear, perfect for a day at the pool or the farmer’s market. A little more affordable at $22.
- MAC Amplified Lipstick in Neon Orange – I picked this baby up while at a music festival because it gives me a bright pop of color in seconds! With orange hues very popular for Summer 2013, this shade is a must-have for makeup lovers. We all know MAC is affordable ($15 a tube) so check out some of their other shades if you think this one is too bold for you.
- Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Euphoria – There’s nothing wrong with drugstore lipsticks, ladies! The Covergirl Lip Perfection line has numerous shades that go on very nicely and are well-pigmented. I picked this specific shade for a great nighttime look. Beware: it’s dark! But with bronzer and mascara, this is a quick 10-minute look that will keep your date from wondering what is taking you so long! At about $5, this plum lipstick is a steal!
Every summer it is important to take great care of your lips because they don’t sweat! Before putting anything on my lips I use Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub ($10 a jar) and I apply a layer of lip balm (I prefer eos Lip Balm Sphere in Summer Fruit, $3.50) before I place any color on my lips. Not only does this keep my lips smooth and healthy, but it also allows my lip color to go on effortlessly. I often use the lip scrub again at night to remove residue before sleeping.
